About the Junior Section
Thrapston CC is an all inclusive cricket club and is open to all. Every child is catered for from the absolute beginner to our County players. The junior section has cricketers from the age of 4 to 16. We enter teams in league cricket at the under 11, 13, 15 and 17 age groups.
The under 9's play in Kwik Cricket tournaments throughout the summer and the under 7's play in friendly Kwik Cricket games. We are proud of the number of girls in the junior section and are one of the very few clubs who field an all-girl teams.
All of our coaches have been CRB checked and have ECB coaching qualifications, as well as being first aid trained. Our highly qualified coaches also work outside the club with local schools, disability cricket, East Northants district and with Northants County.
In addition to our coaches, we also have a number of parents who assist at training sessions and matches to help give that little bit more to the children. We pride ourselves on the positive atmosphere we maintain in the junior section, and on the balance we achieve between playing for fun and playing to win.
We have strong links with East Northants district and Northants County cricket, and do whatever we can to support both.
Help from parents is always very much appreciated, whether it is providing lifts to away matches, helping with tea's, scoring or supporting social events. Please feel free to volunteer.
During the playing season, (May-Sept), outdoor training takes place at the Chancery Lane ground. It is held on a Friday night for the under 7's 9's 11's 13's and 15's. The under 17's train with the senior squads on Wednesday nights.
During the close season, we continue training indoors. The under 7's 9's and 11's train in the King John School hall on Thursday nights from the middle of October right through to the start of outdoor training. The under 13's and 15's use the Corby Business Academy on Wednesday nights from the start of January. The under 17's again train with the seniors, and this is on Wednesday nights at the Ferrers School.
Player Pathway / Development
We recognise that no two children are the same in terms of cricket development. Our training sessions are pitched at a level which includes all abilities within the group. No child is left behind or held back at Thrapston.
The development of our talented players is ensured by playing them in higher age groups, nominating them for District and County age group squads and fast tracking them into senior teams.
Club kit is not compulsory, although if possible we would like all children playing in representative matches to wear a club shirt - and in any case they must wear "whites" and white shoes for matches.
Once your child starts playing with a hard ball for the under 11's, they will be required to wear protective equipment. This includes a helmet, gloves, pads and a "box" when batting or wicket keeping. All these items can be borrowed from the club if necessary, and there are always a few spare bats about - but most children will want their own and will find this to be more comfortable than borrowed kit.
We do not recommend any particular brand or supplier - fit and feel are more important than labels.
There are 2 local cricket shops, both of whom sponsor the club. Karl Sports are based in Kettering and they also host the club shop, where all club 'whites' can be bought. Hunts County Bats are in Huntingdon and have a huge choice of bats.
For more information on kit, please feel free to speak to any of the coaches.
It is the parents responsibility to transport their children to both home and away matches. It is a good idea to speak to other parents and lift share. Team managers can sometimes offer lifts, but this must be arranged in advance.
